on pondering if your job is killing you?
Numerous studies have clearly shown that the average working person is much more productive than in earlier decades. For example, an American worker, according to surveys conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, has tripled productivity since 1947.
Although work does give us a sense of belonging to something bigger than ourselves, to an enterprise that affects hundreds of lives by what it produces for a national economy, research indicates that overall job satisfaction is low due to how poorly people are treated in many corporate businesses. Frustrated by low respect at work, many people have resorted to self-destructive behavior after work, from drugs to alcohol, and from infidelity to abusive parenting. This raises the question: are our jobs ruining our lives?
Additionally, apart from experiencing demeaning treatment at work, some jobs are too strenuous, requiring constant labor, while others are too sedentary, resulting in a progressive denial of healthy activity.
