No Snowboarding in 60+ Degrees and Rain - Cube Dweller Fitness

No Snowboarding in 60+ Degrees and Rain

This weekend was supposed to be an awesome two-day snowboard SLAM! But the weather didn’t participate. It is supposed to be 67 at Monarch, then thunderstorms tomorrow in Summit County. I was hoping to spend the weekend outside on the slopes, but this Cube Dweller’s wish was declined. Time to switch gears for the weekend.

Snowboarding in Spring Rain

While I love snowboarding, I just hate to do it in the rain. Freezing rain or not, rain is just a royal pain – so count me out. Spring riding in the Rockies can be fun, I still think it is strange sensation to be snowboarding in 60 plus degrees. Snowboarding is a winter sport, right?

The pros and cons of Spring Snowboarding:

Pros Cons
No frostbite – seriously, even if the wind kicks up you don’t even get chilled. Sweat – I don’t care how ventilated my Burton Vent Pants are; 60+ is just too warm to not sweat like a beast.
Water Rides – mild, or wild hitting patches of water on your board is a blast. Water Rides – okay if you bite it in the water … well, it bites.
Shreddin’ in Shorts – if you’re up for it spring is the season. 60+ is sure to bring out a few that will insist on shredding in shorts. What to wear – shorts sound good, until you crash. So what to wear on 60+ days is a huge problem.
Jibbin’ – spring fills every run with obstacles from puddles, to rocks, to small trees. Everything that was buried by the season’s snow starts to show up. Perfect for showin’ off your steazy style by jibbin’ on everything that snow gives you SLOW – that same melt that gives us all the obstacles leaves the snow crazy slow. Unless you have a great micro-texture on the wax surface of your board to reduce surface tension your board is going to get sucked down to a stop. Spring boarding can be slow.

I had to find a video of snowboard water rides, enjoy.

Leave it to the Scandinavians for some serious water shreddin’.

Well the Spring rains stopped us from heading out to the slopes, but that doesn’t mean we are going to couch-potato the weekend.

We had multi-grain Belgian waffles, strawberries, and sausage for breakfast. Now we’re off to find some hiking around Colorado Springs. It is supposed to get close to 80 degrees here in the Springs; get out of the Cube.

Remember There’s life outside the box.
