Workout While Traveling | Carter Park in Breckenridge, CO

What do you when you travel? What about when you travel and don’t have access to a hotel gym?
Here is what I do…

Workout While Traveling

I open google maps and search for signs of parks, hills, or better yet something that combines them both. I’m at a work retreat in Breckenridge, CO. It is nice, we are staying in a rented house. So no hotel food, or being sequestered in a conference room for endless hours. We just chilled in the living room.

Sure we posted all sizes of Post-it-Notes on every empty section of wall. We covered over paintings to create a projector screen. We had adapted the rented house for work, but I needed a workout.

Enter Google maps. I started searching from our location. I watched for open space, parks, or something that might be some hills.

Why? I want some open space to do sprints, bodyweight exercises, and some hill sprints. Now if there is a jungle gym, monkey bars, or just about anything I can hang off for pull-ups that is a huge bonus. I struck pay-dirt.

Carter Park in Breckenridge, CO – Park and Hills

Carter Park, Breckenridge, CO

This little park provided just what I needed for a workout while traveling in Breckenridge. The park had a few jungle gyms (yeah there were a few parents of toddlers giving me strange looks, but hey). There were two open sections of grass and on the south east end … the hill.

The hill was a very steep section that offered two perfect structures for a workout: rock steps and a mountain bike trail. I took two rounds of running up the stairs, then jogging back down the mountain bike switch-back filled trail.

After the hill I made my way out into the grass. Where I did 20 squats, 50 yard sprint, 30 push-ups, and another 50 yard sprint. Then I made my way over the monkey bars for set of pull-ups. (For more ideas check out my free e-courses.)

If you add in the jog to and from the park it was just the workout that I needed while traveling in Breckenridge, CO.

So … what do you do when you are traveling, have no access to a gym, and want some exercise?
